Before choosing to add any new companion
into your life, there are many things you should take into
consideration.
Time
One of the first things you should know
is that there is always a time commitment with any pet.
Consider the amount of time you actually plan on spending on
caring for you newly desirable friend. Different pets
require different amounts of time cleaning, handling,
feeding, and socializing.
Money
Any new pet you choose to share your life
with will cost you money, some more so than others because
they have some special needs. You should consider the cost
of food and feeding supplies, furniture, training, annual
medical expenses that might be incurred, cleaning and
disinfecting supplies (for both you and your
pet), the cost of the pet itself, grooming and other
pet services, and anything else you can think of.
Locating a qualified,
and Specialized Veterinarian
A priority for any current or future pet
owner is to find a Veterinarian that specializes in your
pet. One of the leading causes of deaths of all pets is lack
of a qualified veterinarian, this goes especially for exotic
pets (i.e. iguanas, rabbits, birds, etc). This may take some
time and patience, however, is most necessary.
Responsibility
Every pet owner needs to know
this...Assume the full responsibility of the care for your
new friend because most likely no one else will, or they
will do it wrong. If you agree with someone else to take in
partnership of owning a pet, you might want to as of now
except the fact that you might have to take the role of the
responsible owner all on your own. Your brother, sister or
friends might decide to opt out of their
responsibility, don't let that person be you. Except this
fact now so that it won't be too much of a surprise later on
if it does manage to occur.
